Importance of Plastic Strapping

Plastic Strapping

Plastic strapping is designed for use in light to heavy-duty strapping applications. you can use them to secure small or large packages or multiple packages and for palletizing shipping loads. Some types of plastic strapping are made to be used in heavy industries and fro heavy-duty applications.

Why Plastic Strapping?

Certain types of plastic straps can be as strong as steel strapping and can be used for the highest industry tolerances. You can use it for strapping heavy-duty loads that require high initial tensioning and retained tensioning.

High quality cord strapping can hold on tightly around loads. This is possible even after the load has shrunk in size. plastic straps are available in wide range of widths, lengths and gauges.

Advantages of Using Plastic Strapping

There are many advantages of using plastic strapping:

  • It doesn’t cause any contamination or damage to the packages
  • It causes lesser presser on the load edges
  • It has high shock absorbing property during shipment
  • Tensioning remains intact even when load shrinks
  • A wide range of seals, including buckles, can be used to secure plastic straps
  • Can be used as a cost-effective alternative to steel or stainless steel strapping without losing on strength. Thus, helps increase savings
  • Reduces injury risk due to breakage or during handling

Resistance to UV Rays & Moisture

Plastic or cord strapping can resist moisture compared to steel strapping. You will not have to worry about rusting or corrosion that could cause damage to the package. So there is also no risk of staining. It can also be exposed to the sun without any loss of tension.

There are different types of strapping tools that can be used for strapping plastic straps. This includes high-speed units, hand tools and pneumatic tools.

Seal Types for Plastic Strapping

As already mentioned, plastic strapping can be sealed using a wide range of seals. This includes the following:

  • Open Seals – This is the most commonly used seal with plastic straps. Galvanized metal open seals can be easily used to complete the strapping application. It helps in speeding up the process.
  • Closed Seals – Also known as push seals or push-type seals, these seals have an overlapping design. These closed seals require threading before tension is applied.
  • Gripper-Type Seals – Also called serrated seals, this type of plastic strapping seals are known for the serrated design within the seal. It helps in gripping the strap.

A big advantage of using plastic strapping is that it can be easily disposed off, especially when compared to metal strapping. This makes recycling much easier.
