Plastic and Polyester Strapping
There are different types of plastic strapping options and these straps are made to meet some of the highest standards and industry tolerances. Due to the high retained tension properties, it is ideally suited for applications where initial and retained tensioning is required. It ensures that the strapping remains tight around the load even after the load has shrunk or settled.
Plastic strapping is the recommended choice of strapping for lumber and brick. Different types of battery-powered plastic strapping tools are available to deliver reliable and fast strapping applications. This type of strapping is also available in a wide range of widths and thicknesses. Plastic is also preferred because it is safer and easier to handle compared to its metal counterparts.

Polyester Strapping
Polyester strapping is known for its high elongation and tensile strength. If you are looking for a material that is both reliable and safe to use, polyester strap is the perfect choice. It is more efficient in absorbing impacts and shocks during shipping because of its elongation properties. Even with its lower breaking strength, polyester strapping can be used to replace steel strapping because of its capacity to elongate.
Advantages
There are many advantages of using polyester strap over other plastic straps.
- High Tensile Strength: Polyester strapping has higher tensile strength compared to polypropylene strapping. It can retain its tensile strength for longer duration while having high shock resistance. It also features superior tension retention and load stability.
- Weather Resistance: This type of plastic strapping can be used for outdoor applications due to its weather resistance. It can maintain tension in humid conditions and has some level of UV resistance and good heat resistance.
- Lesser Elongation: Compared to polypropylene, polyester strap has lower elongation. This will help in retaining strap tension when the load settles, contracts or expands. Loads with PET strapping can be moved even when they have been stored for long period.
Polypropylene Strapping
This type of strapping is preferred for its versatility and affordability. When it comes to palletizing or bundling items, polypropylene strapping is the recommended strapping option. PP strapping is durable and hard-wearing, and thus ideally suited for securing larger loads or parcels that need long-term storage. It is capable of withstanding repeated scratches and bumps.
Both black banding and green banding have good resistance to UV degradation. Some of the advantages of PP strapping include the following:
- Low density make it easier to carry
- High chemical resistance means no corrosion
- High rigidity makes polypropylene strapping suited for use with battery powered automatic strapping tools
- Due to high abrasion resistance, this type of plastic strapping has longer life and doesn’t cause damage to loads
Polypropylene is also recyclable, making it a greener alternative to other types of strapping materials. When you choose plastic straps, all types of accessories are also readily available to speed up and ease the applications.
